Rev. James Flynn

Fr. Flynn was raised in Arlington and graduated from Granbury High School and Texas A&M. He also spent 4 years in active duty with the U.S. Army.  Upon graduation, he worked in commodities for Cargill Incorporated for three years before joining the seminary at the age of 29. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Fort Worth in May 2006.

Rev. Mr. Thomas Bates
Deacon and Director of Marriage & Family Life \\ ext. 237

Deacon Tom has a BS in electrical engineering from Louisiana Tech, and three master’s degrees: MBA and computer science from Texas A&M and theology from the University of Dallas. His wife, Diane, has a Ph.D. in physical chemistry and is actively involved with Magnificat, a woman-to-woman ministry. Deacon Tom enjoys serving the parish as a deacon, assisting young couples with marriage preparation, and doing anything else Fr. Flynn might task him with. He has 3 sons and 1 granddaughter.

Rev. Mr. M.C. Marquez

Deacon MC Marquez has been a deacon since May 1984.  He and his wife Elsie have been married for 50 years, have 4 children and 3 grandchildren. Deacon MC and his family have been members of St Francis since 1965. Deacon MC’s duties include baptisms, adoration, weddings, blessings and funerals.

Mr. Brett Metzler
Seminarian on Pastoral Year // ext. 235

Brett Metzler has been a seminarian with the diocese of Fort Worth for 6 years. He is currently assigned to St. Francis for his pastoral year. He spent his first 4 years of seminary at St. Joseph Seminary College and currently attends Theological College at the Catholic University. Brett is available to meet in his office by appointment via email or call. He is also open to invitations to people’s homes. If your family would like to invite him to your home, please email or call him with a couple of available dates and he will get back to you. He is excited to be on pastoral year and especially to get to know the people of the parish!


Joseph Barringhaus

Joseph was born in Michigan but six months later moved to Grapevine, Texas. He went to Holy Trinity Catholic School and graduated from Grapevine High School in 2014. After graduating, Joseph spent a year serving with NET Ministries. He is currently attending Wichita State University majoring in marketing, in hopes of better using his gifts to serve the Church. He and his family have been members at St. Francis for 14 years where he was very active with the parish youth group. Joseph is very excited to be working at his home parish, where he can prepare for his future and help make a positive impact on the community of St. Francis of Assisi.

Karen Bedore
Preschool Director \\ ext. 230

Karen was born and raised in Houston, going to Catholic Schools from kindergarten through college. She received her Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas. Karen started working in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston in 1992, at her home parish preschool as a 2 year old teacher & assistant director. In 2003, she became Director of the SEEDS Preschool at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Houston. Karen left Houston in 2011 to move to Weatherford, TX, when her first grandchild was born. Her son and daughter-in-law live in Weatherford with their two boys, and her daughter and son-in-law still live in Houston.

Denise Brooks

Denise has spent over 30 years in music ministry at various parishes, but St. Francis has been her home for most of that time.  Starting in the ‘mission church’ in 1984, Denise started the choir and cantor program, and over the years, developed multiple music ministries to serve the parish.

Donna Buccino

Donna Buccino has been working  at St. Francis Church since February 2009, and she has been a parishioner for the past 10 years. She has been married to the same wonderful man for the last 23 year and they have 3 beautiful children.

Nora Diemicke 
Childcare Ministry Coordinator

Nora started working at St. Francis in 1998 as a CDC preschool teacher after moving here from Florida with her husband, Jim and their three children, Nicholas, Michael and Lenore.  In 2001, Nora took over the nursery/childcare ministry.  In this ministry, Nora and her staff provide loving care for  children newborn to 5 years of age during masses and any classes the parish may offer.

Sam Ford
Coordinator of Middle School Youth Ministry \\ ext. 240

Sam grew up just down the road in Coppell, and, after encountering Jesus in a personal and life-changing way as a freshman in high school, decided to study at Franciscan University of Steubenville, where he double majored in Theology and Catechetics with a concentration in Youth Ministry.  After finishing two years of missionary work on college campuses in the Kansas City area with Saint Paul’s Outreach, he couldn’t be more excited to work with Middle School Young Church!  When he’s not up here at SFA, he loves playing disc golf, reading good books (especially Michael O’Brien novels), and trying to figure out how the Avengers will beat Thanos in the next Avengers movie.

John Gawrys

Having been born, baptized, and raised in this parish has allowed John to be a part of it’s history and growth.  For more than 20 years, John has been on staff as the Business and Financial Manager.  To John this is not just a job or an occupation but a calling to serve the people of St. Francis of Assisi.

Esther Gomez Splawn
Coordinator of Stewardship & Volunteers \\ ext. 233

Esther grew up in Westford, Massachusetts and was commissioned as an Officer in the Marine Corps in 2007.  She spent time on Active Duty in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and deployed to Afghanistan where she heard a call to come home to the Catholic Church. After receiving Confirmation as an adult in 2010, she started volunteering in her parish’s youth ministry program and eventually became a youth minister at a parish in suburban Seattle.  She moved to Texas in 2014 to attend the University of Dallas, where she completed her Masters of Pastoral Ministry with a concentration in Church Management. Esther still serves in the Marine Corps Reserve. She married her husband, Eric, in summer 2018.

Scott Immel
RCIA Coordinator & Tribunal Advocate \\ ext. 234

Scott was born and raised in Colorado and lived in California for 33 years before moving to Texas. He has BS degrees in Biology and Psychology and a law degree from Western State University College of Law at Argosy University. He is married, has five children, and has been a member of the parish since 2007. Scott is a Certified Catechist and a Ministry Leader by the St. John Paul II Lay Ministry Institute and serves as a Tribunal Advocate for the FW Diocese Marriage Tribunal. He is a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, an instituted Acolyte in the Diocese of FW, Eucharist Minister, Lector and taught in the High School Confirmation Catechesis four years prior to his engagement in RCIA and Adult Catechesis.

Tim Jara

Tim grew up in the DFW area with three adventurous siblings and a love for the outdoors. After encountering Jesus in high school, he went on to study at Franciscan University of Steubenville and earn degrees in theology and catechetics with a focus in Youth Ministry. He then moved down to Austin, TX where he served as a youth minister for two years. In spring 2017, he joined the parish family of SFA and tied the knot with his high school sweetheart, Katie, in July of that year. Tim’s passion is sharing Christ with young people. He also loves camping, shooting stars, good movies, and paper airplanes.

Eleanor Kiesewetter

Eleanor was born  in New York and moved to Texas in 1977. She found her way to Grapevine and St, Francis of Assisi in 1988. She has worked at the parish for 10 years, and participated several years before that as a volunteer. Eleanor loves to travel and try new things.

Danielle Milliken

Originally from Missouri, Dani moved to Texas in 2010 to attend the University of Dallas, where she earned a BA in theology and a MBA with a focus in marketing. She has also completed a certificate in graphic design. She worked for five years at UD’s School of Ministry, managing the website and marketing for the school and helping plan the annual Dallas Ministry Conference, before beginning at St. Francis. She and her husband, Madison, have one daughter and one son.

Edmund Mitchell

Edmund graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville with degrees in theology and catechesis and a focus in youth ministry. Before coming to St. Francis, he served as the Director of Youth Ministry at a parish in Toledo, OH. After working as a youth minister for over 5 years, Edmund transitioned into the role of Director of Catechesis and Evangelization, where he helps cast the vision and lead a team tasked with helping St. Francis parish live out it’s mission everyday.  He is also on the team that started Reverb Culture (, a community of Catholic young adults who are creating a culture of wild living by engaging the faith, each other and the world through the Catechism of the Catholic Church. His wife Danielle is a a Texas native, and they have four sons and one daughter. Edmund likes books, coffee, and that newborn baby smell.

Mary M. has been Director St Francis Outreach for over 10 years. Her personal goal has been to always have the food pantry stocked and ready for anyone looking for food to feed their families. Mary has been blessed with an amazing husband Thomas for 30 years, two great children and their spouses, and two grandchildren.

Laura Nelson

Laura Nelson, her husband, and three children have been parishioners at St. Francis since 1999.  Laura has taught Music and Movement at our parish preschool since 2005.  Since 2010, Laura has also been writing and speaking about Catholic topics. She is listed with CMG Booking, a Catholic Speaker’s Bureau, and writes two blogs: and  She also contributes to the popular website, Catholic Mom and writes for Faith Catholic Publishing in their Homilies and Commentaries division.   Laura has a passion for providing engaging and inspirational catechesis to both young and old alike.

Sister Yolanda Pineda, MCSH
Hispanic Ministry & Spanish Catechesis \\ ext. 239

Sister Pineda was born in Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico and is a Religious Missionary Catechist of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. She entered this Congregation in 1984 and has been on mission in the states of New Jersey and Texas. She has previously served at St. John the Apostle and St. Bartholomew in the Fort Worth diocese.

Rosie Rodriguez

Rosie Rodriguez and her family have been members of St Francis of Assisi since 1996. Rosie has worked for the parish since 2004, and is currently the Parish Secretary and assists with Hispanic

Karen Schiavo

Karen is a farm girl from Slaton, Texas. She attended Texas Tech and married and moved to the DFW area in 1967. She has one daughter and two grandchildren, and is retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, with 27 years in IT. She is a graduate of the University of Dallas Catholic Biblical School and settled in Grapevine in 1998, when she joined St Francis of Assisi parish. Karen volunteers in several ministries and has served for 3 years doing accounts payable.

David Trigleth

David has 4 beautiful children with his wife Lori. He is happily charged with caring for the church. He is originally from Oklahoma and is a recent convert to the Catholic faith.
