Children’s Christmas Choir & Mass

All families are invited to participate in our

Children’s Christmas Mass

December 24 • 4 pm

Children in grade 3+ are invited to join the

Children’s Christmas Mass Choir

All details and rehearsal times below!

Registration for the Children’s Choir now closed.

This Christmas Eve Mass is being prepared specifically for children and their families to celebrate Jesus’ birth! It is our hope that all of the liturgical ministers, including altar servers, readers, cantors, greeters and ushers for this Mass will be children. Parents or young adults/teens from the families are invited to participate as extraordinary minsters.

Because children are no longer taught traditional Christmas Carols in public schools, we have designed a program here on the St. Francis website to prepare children and their families for the music which will be used during this Children’s Christmas Mass. Parents are encouraged to download the history of each carol, the words, and the recordings to rehearse with their children at home, in the car, burn to a CD, etc. All of this information can be found at the bottom of this page. We ask that the children learn these carols prior to the Children’s Mass so we can have the fullest participation!

GIFTS FOR THE POOR

This will be a Candlelight Mass! Children are asked to bring a gift for the poor, like the Wise Men brought gifts for Jesus. In exchange for their gifts for the poor, children will be given a LED candle to be used during the Mass. Candles must be returned at the end of Mass (so they can be used in future years!).

  • Last Names A-F – bring “myrrh” (a toiletry item)
  • Last Names G-R – bring “gold” (a canned good)
  • Last Names S-Z – bring “frankincense” (a boxed food)

Children participating in the Mass are expected to arrive at the Church, bring their food item, exchange for a candle, and be seated by 3:45 pm. Remember, this is a crowded mass – allow enough time to arrive on time!

For any questions or concerns, please contact Denise Brooks, Director of Music & Liturgy, at dbrooks@sfatx.org or 817-481-2685 ext 228.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS CHOIR

For any children in 3rd grade or older, you are invited to participate in the Children’s Choir and the Candlelight Procession!

This is a 6 week intensive event directed by Denise Brooks.  Children will learn the traditional carols, psalm and mass service music in order to lead the Children’s Christmas Mass.  They will sit in the choir area during the mass in order to lead. Children must be able to attend scheduled rehearsals. The kids will be given CDs and/or mp3s to help reinforce what they learn in rehearsal.  The CD is not a substitute for rehearsal.

These children will accompany Fr. Flynn in the Gathering Procession around the Church as he places Jesus in the manger and then head to the choir area to sing for the remainder of mass. To participate in the Children’s Christmas Choir and Candlelight Procession, you must sign-up at the form linked below.

REHEARSALS

Children are expected to learn the carols prior to the rehearsals and Mass, so that the rehearsals can be focused on helping the children learn to sing in a choral setting and “perfecting” the carols. Children who would like to participate in the Children’s Choir must attend the following rehearsal:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 5:00 – 5:45pm in the music room
  • Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 5:00 – 5:45pm in the music room
  • Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 5:00 – 5:45pm in the music room
