How can you help Children's Catechesis?

Children’s Catechesis (PK-6th) Volunteer Opportunities

Below is a list of volunteer roles we are currently looking to fill, along with a brief description of the time commitment required. 

 

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

  • CGS Catechist L1 — 2-2.5 hours per weeks in class, plus at least 45 minutes of preparation outside of class, plus initial formation and ongoing formation
  • CGS Catechist L2 — 2-2.5 hours per weeks in class, plus at least 45 minutes of preparation outside of class, plus initial formation and ongoing formation
  • CGS Assistant Catechist L1 — 2-2.5 hours per week in class, initial and ongoing training and formation
  • CGS Assistant Catechist L2 — 2-2.5 hours per week in class, initial and ongoing training and formation
  • CGS Bathroom Monitor — 2 hours or less per week during class time, plus training
  • CGS Atria Maintenance — 1-2 hours per week to clean and refresh consumable items in atria, can be done anytime between atrium sessions
  • CGS Laundry — 1-2 hours per week done on site or at home washing drying and folding washcloths and towels for atrium
  • CGS Dishes — 1-2 hours per month or quarter to deep clean all glassware in the atria
  • CGS Materials Coordinator L1 — 15+ hours per year flexible in charge of recruiting parishioners to create or upkeep materials for the atrium
  • CGS Materials Coordinator L2 — 15+ hours per year flexible in charge of recruiting parishioners to create or upkeep materials for the atrium
  • CGS Presentation Clerk — 2+ hours per month, enters presentation records into master historical record throughout the catechesis year
  • CGS Formation Coordinator — 20+ hours per event which are held yearly, organize registrations and paperwork for Formation courses hosted at SFA. Oversee the set up of the training space including tables, chairs, and food items for participants

 

Elementary Catechesis

  • Elementary Lead Catechist — 3+ hours per week (in class time plus prep time outside of class), develops catechesis lessons and presents them to their class through the use of prayer, reading, community building, and other engaging experiences to draw their students into a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Elementary Assistant Catechist — 2+ hours per week during the school year-assists the lead catechist with execution of the weekly lesson, attendance taking, and classroom setup, cleanup, and management of student behavior to free the catechist up to lead the lesson
  • Elementary Supplies Coordinator — 12+ hours per year (flexible), ensures that all classrooms are stocked with standard supplies (glue sticks, markers, etc.) at the beginning of the year, replenishes supplies mid-year, and reassesses them at the end of the year for Laura to place orders to purchase replacements. Organizes and maintains the stocking of general supplies in the Catechist Supply Room throughout the year
  • Attendance Clerk — 2+ hours monthly (slightly more at the beginning of the school year), assists with roster creation and corrections, enters attendance information for weekly classes and brings any attendance or roster issues to Laura’s attention to be remedied
  • Sacrament Preparation Records — 2+ hours monthly (slightly more at the beginning and end of school year, records attendance at sac prep workshops, enters baptism and First Communion sacramental information, assists Laura with printing First Communion Certificates prior to First Communion Masses in April or May
  • Homeschool Coordinator — 1+ hours per week (slightly more at the beginning of the school year), communicates with Homeschool families to ensure they have access to online materials and are progressing toward completion by the deadline. Verifies completion and records verification. Communicates with the online homeschool provider to gain log-in access for families new to the program
  • Traditional Catechist Manager — 1+ hours per week beginning in August and running through May-coordinates substitutes, catechist training and paperwork, safe environment status of all elementary catechists
  • Traditional Catechist Admin — 1+ hours per week during school year to unlock rooms, checks supplies and snacks and folders before classes each week
