The primary mission of our parish – building a church of missionary disciples by preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and reaching the poor – has led us to articulate this vision: to Encounter, to Grow, and to Serve. In working to include all persons and groups of persons, from the most dedicated of our prayer groups to the largest of our catechetical ministries, the St. Francis of Assisi staff has committed itself to presenting this vision to our parish members as a way to clearly see the place and purpose that each person upholds in our community, continuously and intentionally walking through these three stages on their journey to sainthood. From the Encounter with Jesus Christ in His true presence or in His children – to the next moment on, wherein we wish to Grow in our knowledge of Him, ourselves, and others – to the lived-out desire to Serve these members of His body – this path of discipleship has clear stages, a clear goal, and a definitive method of presentation for the Good News of the Gospel. Our vast networks of parish groups and ministries are uniquely able to place their efforts in the service of this vision, as individual members and leaders work together to align their different dynamics and initiatives around the idea of consistently and constantly encountering, growing in, and serving Christ in this parish and in the wider community.
The St. Francis of Assisi staff is always looking for opportunities to better articulate this clear path of discipleship, as well as for opportunities to discuss it, practice it, and apply it in the parish as a whole – with our individual ministries and ministry members, and at any of our catechetical training sessions or day retreats. We hope you will join us in this missionary activity of love and joy!
