Notice about Spam from Someone Impersonating Fr. Flynn via Text & Email

The parish staff has been made aware that someone is impersonating Fr. Flynn via text and email and is sending messages, like the one pictured below, to parish community members. Once you respond via email, the perpetrator asks to be sent gift cards, often for iTunes or other online vendors.

Please note that official communication from St. Francis Clergy and Staff would come only from email accounts with “sfatx.org” extensions and that we would NEVER solicit for gift cards via text or email. If you receive a text message from someone claiming to be St. Francis Clergy or Staff but don’t recognize the number, please contact the parish office to verify.

If you have received one of these spam emails or texts, please be aware that this is not Fr. Flynn or another staff member but is an impersonator. While our Outreach often does request gift card donations to help those in need, they would be for local grocery stores, not for online vendors like iTunes, and they are accepted only at the Parish Office. Outreach would never request that you mail them to someone directly.  At this time, we don’t believe parish data was breached but that the impersonator has found the contact information online.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Danielle Milliken, Coordinator of Digital Media & Communications, at dmilliken@sfatx.org.
