Pastoral Changes – February 2019
Announcement regarding our New Pastor, Fr. Sojan George
We are very excited to announce that our new pastor, Fr. Sojan George, will be joining us beginning February 14, 2019. Fr. Sojan (pronounced Soh-JUH-n) was born on May 20, 1975 in Kerala, India as the 4th of 5 children, with two brothers and two sisters. One of his brothers is a priest of the Salesians of Don Bosco. He joined the seminary in 1990 and was ordained a priest on Jan 01, 2000. Fr. Sojan has been serving in the diocese of Fort Worth since 2002. He served as the Parochial Vicar in three parishes from 2002 -2006. From 2006 -2011, he served as the pastor of the parishes in Decatur, Bridgeport and Jacksboro. In 2011, he was appointed as the pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Wichita Falls and he was appointed as the Rector of St. Patrick Cathedral in 2016.
We are anxious to welcome him to the community of St. Francis in Grapevine! Fr. Sojan will say all of the Masses on the weekend of February 16/17. Make plans to join us for a small welcoming reception after the 5pm Mass and 1pm Spanish Mass, or join us at the Knights of Columbus Pancake breakfast after the 8am and 10am Masses to meet & welcome him there!
No Daily Mass during Pastoral Changes
Please note, there will be no Daily Mass while we are between pastors, from Monday, January 28 until Wednesday, February 13. Adoration will still take place during this time. Fr. Sojan will say his first Daily Mass at St. Francis on Thursday, February 14 at 8:30am and the normal Daily Mass schedule will resume at that time.
Announcement regarding Fr. Flynn’s Reassignment
At all Masses on January 12/13, Father Flynn discussed a priest’s vow of obedience and how he is living out this vow in a special way over the coming weeks, saying “there are many things I have learned in my time as a priest, but one of the most important things I have learned is that God’s will is most especially present when we are obedient. Obedient to Him and what He asks of us.”
With a heavy heart but a hope for our parish’s future and his own mission as a priest, Father Flynn announced that Bishop Olson, in consultation with the personnel board, has decided to reassign him to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Keller, effective February 1st. Please continue to pray with us during this time of transition, especially for Fr. Flynn in his new role, for the community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton as they gain a magnificent pastor, for our new pastor (announced 1/25 to be Fr. Sojan George), and for our own faith community as we look forward to our future under new leadership.
